Blue Eyed Zombie

Okay, what is with all the hot zombie ladies on Flickr?  Seriously, can you believe that one of my ex-girlfriend's wasn't into the undead?  Maybe that's why it didn't work out.  Huh.  Talk about a revelation.

Her loss.

Zombie Mob

I know, I know, the first thing you think of when you look at this picture is: did Robin Williams and Zach Galifianakis have a baby?

But what irks the piss out of me about this picture is the blatant disregard for any kind of intellectual-slash-religious tolerance.  I mean, did you even notice the sign the guy was carrying?  It's hard to spot with Robin and Zach's lovechild lurking in the corner there, but right in the middle of the picture there's a sign that says "GOD HATES ZOMBIES".

REALLY?

I thought God loved everything that he created.  And if everything was created by God, than -- ipso facto -- GOD LOVES ZOMBIES.

In your face, racist zombie-haters.

Clearly, she's been waiting for the bus.  For a long time.  A VERY long time.  Don't ask me to explain the camera.

For almost 12 months now, I've been quietly working on the most important piece of zombie literature known to mankind.  Or zombiekind, as the case may be.  And by 12 months, I mean intermittently.  It's not THAT big of a book.

At any rate, I recently finished writing and editing the novella and the story is currently receiving it's semi-final proofing.  My hope is to have print copies and an ebook version available within the coming weeks.

For anyone who's been following this story, you know that I haven't exactly had the easiest time nailing down the title of this novella.  At the very beginning, the title was "On the Outside Looking In: Living Impaired Among the Unimpaired Living".  This was the title that actually inspired me to write Zaphod's story.  Unfortunately, I don't think that it was the most marketable of titles, so I tried to come up with something more fitting.

Draft two of the title -- which I used in a mockup of the cover located elsewhere on this website -- was "Don't Call Me Zombie".  While this was more appropriate and certainly more marketable, it established an undesired premise and conflict in the story and the best way to remedy it was to simply not use that title.

Obviously, the book is about Zaphod Zombie.  After spending weeks going over and over this problem about the title, I finally settled on the obvious, borrowing the subtitle from my original idea.  I like it, and I hope you do, too.

While the full text of the book is still a few weeks off, you can read the opening chapter after the break.  Also, feel free to catch up on the Zaphod Zombie webcomic.  And if you enjoy this sample of Zaphod Zombie, I would encourage you to visit my lulu.com page and consider buying one of my other books.

Stumble on, true believers!

Zombicon.  The label given to a gaudy publicity stunt in Southwest Florida, not dissimilar to "zombiecons" throughout the world (note the absence of the "e").  People who participate in and support these events may claim that they are doing it in the spirit of celebration of the horror genre's most beloved offspring.

But what's really happening here is that hordes of people dress up as the undead and unwittingly mock the legitimate lifestyle of the living impaired.  And I know what you're thinking: "if it's a lifestyle we're talking about, well, the gays do it all the time".  Right. Gay people have their parades, events, and daytime talkshows, making it okay for others to participate.  But when have you EVER seen an actual member of the living impaired participate in these so called zombie "celebrations"?  Yeah, I think you see where I'm going with this.

The problem with Zombicon is that it -- like so many other aspects of modern society -- denigrates our undead brothers and sisters by perpetuating unfair and unrealistic stereotypes.  The living impaired aren't all mindless, brain-hungry automatons!  They are as diverse and interesting as you and I!  And as long people continue to trivialize this growing cornerstone of our society, we will continue to feed the eventual apocalyptic uprising of the disgruntled and subjugated ranks of the undead.

If you're reading this blog, chances are you're already familiar with the collaborative YouTube show "WEBCAMS".  If you're not familiar with it, you're missing out on what the creator happily refers to as the "Seinfeld of the Internet".

Since the show is collaborative in nature (as opposed to being dyspeptic in nature), it accepts original scripts from members of the community.  Two recent scripts are zombie-themed and are certainly worth checking out before someone comes along and rips the brains--er, heart?--out them in a rewrite.
