I mentioned before that I started writing a Zaphod Zombie novel--something of a memoir for the living impaired--and that I was going at it as a first-person narrative.  As I'm writing this, I'm just shy of the ten thousand-word mark and working on the fifth chapter.

I have an outline.  It's primarily the chapter titles and some notes for each chapter.  For example, chapter three is titled "The Suicide Zombies" and is about how Zaphod is invited to join a band.  Chapter four is "Relationships and the Living Impaired" and chapter five is "Zombie Porn".

What's interesting about this process is that aside from taking the effort to just sit down and write (to ignore everything else and write) it's been fairly easy.  The story has been flowing generously.  I suspect that it has a lot to do with the fact that much of what I'm writing has a (loose) framework from the comics and the even older vlogs, but where I've mentioned some details in passing (Zaphod got fired from his job as a waiter because people were complaining about being served food by the living dead) I now have an opportunity to, well, tell the whole story.

Anyway, the story is coming along nicely; I've reached a respectable milestone (10k words--although my last incomplete book is sitting somewhere at 14 or 15k words, and as I recall, I cranked that out real fast too, before hitting the wall); and overall, progress is looking rosey.

Is it coincidence that we're on the eve of National Novel Writing Month?  The rules for that are 50,000 words by the end of November.  Zaphod's book won't be anywhere near that long (I don't think) but maybe I can capitalize on the spirit of the month and finish some other lingering projects.
