Will it be useful?  Productive?  Probably none of these things ... but for now, it'll be worth the look-see:

Another social network that only detracts from real interaction. Joy. I love this game.

Any other day, and I would agree with you. Except today. Admittedly, I've only been using it for two days, but the promise that twitter holds for me is to offer a level of interaction heretofor unrealized with my online friends.

Hear me out: I don't use facebook and I quite myspace over a year ago. I stay away from IM for childish and irrelevant reasons and rely solely on email and youtube (and this site) to interact with people.

Recently (within the past year) I've been developing genuine friendships with people ... and I won't beat around the bush on this one: save for one or two exceptions, you lot are way cooler/meaningful than the people in my "real" life.

Is twitter another social network that only detracts from real interaction? Very likely. For me, however, it's showing the potential to possibly provide real interaction with the people I genuinely want to interact with.

Krubine. If all you wanted was to genuinely experience real interaction then I'm sorry to disagree, but you wouldn't need twitter.

We all exist outside of youtube and outside of our computers in general.

You stay away from IM for childish reasons but am I to take that to mean you believe that Twitter is somehow a step UP from something like msn?

Posting or reading one or two line updates is hardly an attempt to get to know someone personally.

It's harmless, I know, and probably has some good aspects... but more then anything, to me it seems like that friend that never stops talking about other people's lives.

Its a gossip chain, conveniently hidden under the guise of "micro-blogging" and "social networking."

Sorry... I'll stop now. Ive got issues against twitter, lol, you realize that.

By all means have fun though... and enjoy weeding through all the trivial, meaningless celebrity induced human stupidity.
